The Hoops Consultant Philosophy

Our goal is to help players and teams win games, one possession at a time, by teaching what to do and how to do it.

As basketball players must have both offensive and defensive skills to be successful, they also must have both physical and mental skills. Before a player’s game can improve, they must first understand how that improvement is supposed to happen. Basketball is no different than any other skill, athletic or otherwise, in that experience and repetition are the best teachers. Every possession, (and every shot, dribble, pass, defensive rotation, close out, box out, etc.) is a repetition that should be stored into memory and learned from, be it good or bad. Whether a team is hoping to improve their collective offensive and defensive abilities or an individual player is aiming to better understand their strengths and weaknesses, we can help.

Teams and players alike must always be learning. As the level of play increases from high school, to college, to the professional level, margins of error become increasingly slim and the physical skill level becomes so high that every advantage must be sought. Additionally, while strength, athleticism, and other physical abilities increase with each level, the understanding of the intricacies of the game- basketball IQ- also increases exponentially. At the professional level, when basketball becomes a full-time job, watching film of one’s own games and of opponents’ becomes just as common as on-court practice, if not more so. At the high school and college levels, not only is time more scarce, the tools and resources often do not exist for coaches to do the necessary film work for their own team and players or opposing teams and players, nor for players to comprehensively learn and develop through watching their own games or properly prepare for games by watching their opponents.

Our solution is simple: we teach what to do and how to do it. In order for players and teams to truly improve through a thorough understanding their strengths and weaknesses, watching film is essential. We provide thorough,  customized, expert-level coaching through convenient, digestible products that will have a positive impact on your game or team while saving you invaluable time.
